Curriculum Vitae of Sh Suresh K Goel, IFS Retd
A veteran officer with 35 year in diplomatic service of India, Sh Suresh K Goel has spent more than 10 years of his career in South East Asia in Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and China. He has worked actively on India-ASEAN partnership for 5 years and has personally been witness to evolution of ASEAN as the most important regional organisation in South East Asia and developments in Cambodia, Vietnam from 1981 onwards.
He served in the Permanent Mission of India in New York from 1991-95 where he worked on peace and security related issues including concepts of Preventive Diplomacy, Preventive Deployment, Peace Keeping, Peace Making and Post Conflict Reconstruction as part of Peace Building exercise and Security Council reforms.
He has also served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’Affairs in the Indian Embassy in Cairo and Consul General of India in Johannesburg in South Africa.
In the Ministry of External Affairs, he has handled the crucial China Desk and as Director for Europe East including Russia and for the Central Asia Division responsible for Turkey, Kazakstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrghystan and Uzbekistan.
He retired in 2013 as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and Director General of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, and is currently working on the India and China relationship in Indo China.
He is currently Director General of Events and Experiential Management Association, advisor to MIICCIA, Adjunct Faculty to New Delhi Institute of Management, and working with VIF on projects relating to Cultural Diplomacy.
He appears frequently on several Television Channels in debates on foreign policy related issues. He also speaks occasionally in Universities on Foreign Policy matters.
